I just wanted to say welcome @Gentlemaninpa to the Ancients Board! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your coins!
For a great looking portrait of Antoninus Pius, @Curtisimo has a great looking Aeqvitas denarius I know that I'd be proud of and love to show off. @Curtisimo care to share it?
Thank you for the mention Justin. I'm always happy to show off my purple Pius! Roman Empire Antoninus Pius, AD 138-161 AR Denarius, Rome mint, Struck ca. AD 140-143 Wt.: 3.01 g Dia.: 17 mm, 6h Obv.: ANTONINVS AVG PIVS PP TR P COS III; Laureate head right Rev.: AEQVITAS AVG; Aequitas standing left, holding scales and sceptre Ref.: RIC III 61; RSC 14
I do wish all would post both sides of the coin even if the only thing that interests you is the portrait. That would allow the rest of us to identify the coin and enjoy other aspects of it besides the portrait. In this case, I do not know right off the Provincial city that provided the excellent Trajan. The Septimius is a Rome mint 193 AD which is a period of particular interest to me. I might guess that the style could be one used with the VIRT AVG reverse but having no reverse leaves me wondering. One of the great things about ancients is that each die was an individual original piece of art with no mechanical duplicating. We can see differences and even have favorite dies in our areas of specialty but this might take a few years of looking at coins that all seem the same to most people. Nero: I do believe it better if we collect coins without feeling doing so requires we admire the person who issued the coin. Rather few Romans would show well by 2018 standards. Nero was not the worst ruler Rome experienced and he did have some interesting coins. I don't have a nice denarius but am quite pleased with several asses which are the bargain denomination of that period. Sure I would rather my coins were larger denominations (the Janus type even comes in gold) but I'm happy to have the type in any size or metal. The first shown on page one was a dupondius which I do not have. This is an as. My dupondius is a Securitas reverse. The patina obscures the fact it was yellow brass and Nero issued dupondii both with and without the radiate crown. This one is Lugdunum mint.
I have a better Nero, but it's not a denarius (and I've shown it often). NERO AR Drachm OBVERSE: NERO CLAVD DIVI CLAVD F CAESAR AVG GERM, laureate head of Nero right. what just happened? Someone said they get banned all the time. ,, now his post is gone..Who was that?`
Idk. But I saw it as well. Someone with a very loose grasp of English...and math how do you get banned over 1,000 times? I think he is trolling. I saw him not making much sense in other posts as well. Hopefully he starts posting coins or stops.
He was a troll who somehow manages to get on CT with a different name every now and then. He tries to disrupt and many times just cites nonsense.
Always remember: Don't feed the Trolls. Just report them and do nothing else. Oh, and here is a COIN... THAT is what matters here! RI Julian II CE 360-363 AE1 maiorina Diademed R - SECVRITAS REIPVB 2 stars Apis Bull stg R ANT-Gamma 2 palms ANTIOCH RIC 217 LRBC 2641
