Hawaii star note short snorter from WWII

    So I guess it's been confirmed that this particular Orla was definitely a man, then?

    This is USS Cyrene in the photo below, but it was a Type C1-A ship like the Cape Constantine. So this is what the ship in question would have looked like.

    There were 67 C1-A ships built, according to the Wikipedia article.

    (They built 99 C1-M ships here in my hometown of Brunswick, Georgia during the war. We have a city park on the site of the old shipyards.)

    Interesting. Makes more sense as a female name than a male name, though I suppose the latter wasn't totally impossible.

    Neat. So a woman in the service, then, aboard a ship in wartime service in the Pacific? Very interesting.

    It's a draft registration card. Only males registered for the draft.
