A Roman Republic M. Cipius (BC 115-114) Denarius on Wildwinds has the same obverse legend. Helmeted head of Roma right M. CIPI. M. F., behind, X http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/rsc/cipia/i.html
I agree with Willie, Roman Republican denarius. Looks harshly cleaned by your photos, but otherwise looks ok. Its a scarcer coin, and well centered which is unusual.
It looks like a fake to me. The style is a bit odd but the combination of the Cipia obverse with a (RSC 124) reverse used by Augustus 80 years later is way past odd. The fabric looks thin and pressed. I suspect it is a modern fantasy.
yeah, I agree with Doug. The strike alone is a dead giveaway, and the metal is completly off. A modern fake. stainless
Thanks to all for the responses. I found it about a year or so ago while metal detecting near a old church site.
