You DON't have to honor that bid.. it is just an option. I have had bidders that I send second chance offers to ask if they can have it at the price it would have been before the non-payer bid... sometimes I can do it, sometimes I cannot.
Not exactly. Most things I get outbid on it's because I didn't really want it, was iffy on it, or is so common I won't be sad if I miss out on that one so my bid wasn't very strong. If I really want something I usually go nuclear, but getting outbid in those instances is generally more of a sadness than relief.
I bid $280 on an item recently in the heat of the moment but got outbid. I later received a second chance offer. The seller told me the item got returned because the buyer thought it was a rarer variety but then discovered it wasn't. Based on that I figured I would probably be overpaying too if I accepted the offer, so I let it expire. Instead I waited for it to go up for auction again and snagged it for 220
Well I have taken a second chance offer and did quite well doing so. There was a seller on ebay who was from the west coast . He sold jewelry all were nice custom design mostly rings" Ladies rings". I had purchased a 1 Ct chocolate diamond set in rose gold for my wife. "A birthday gift" The jewelry was made in Israel and shipped with tracking right to my door. I was so happy with the first purchase when our Anniversary came up I decided to buy another from this seller. This one was for a 2.5 ct round Tanzanite ring. Well I lost the bid. Was hoping that another would come available , then a day later a I got a message . The message said the wining bid couldn't afford the ring. I was like sold I'll take it. Now here's the best part.... the ring is tracked from Israel through customs. Now it's in customs at JFK NYC. It's a Sunday morning and I run out for a paper and two coffees. I notice a US mail truck bouncing down the road. Thinking man that's Strange! I get in with the coffees and paper and the ring in the package is sitting next to the front door. Duh!!! Then find out she signed for it .....duh again! It was delivered at 7:50 am on a Sunday morning . But what happened next is unreal....... We were on vacation and she had the ring on. We walked into a jewelry shop and we're really just window shopping. The guy behind the counter asks to see her ring. She holds out her hand. Next he called another person over. Who asks if they can see the ring in hand. Strange I'm thinking . I said ok ....so the wife removes the ring. Both put their loops on the stone. Next thing I know they are making offers on either the ring complete or just the stone. Cash offers or they will put another stone in the ring our choice. Offers kept coming until we hit the 9 K figure . Laying down $100. Bills on the glass counter. I'm like I'm not interested in selling my wife's ring! That's when I said no....and we had to get back to the ship. Sure enough when we got home we had the ring appraised. Home run..... a $750. Second chance offer scored a 10K 2.5 ct . Tanzanite stone plus it was set in 18kt. Gold! Talk about the luck of the Irish!
I am sure there are many schill bidders. However, I don't get too much into bids or the heat of the moment. When I see a coin, 1 minute or 1 hour away, I bid the most I'd be willing to pay. If I win, great, if not, oh well. No sweat off my you know what. Schill bidder or not, it's not in my control
