Despite the low grade, this was a steal.</p><p><br /></p><p>The 1796 Draped Bust Cent is a tough and somewhat underrated issue. Although the mintage figures say that about 109k Caps and 363k Busts were minted in 1796, the Bust is notably tougher to come by, and the 96 Cap in itself is the toughest of the three affordable Liberty Cap dates. The most common variety is an R-3, and Sheldon collectors need 27 varieties to complete the set for 1796 Draped Bust alone (as opposed to eleven for the Liberty Cap), which results in a large portion of the known examples being off the market and in collections.[/QUOTE]</p><p><br /></p>
