I also have some 1982 d large date Lincoln cents that don't weight up can someone explain to me what's going on
In 1982 they transitioned from copper to zinc. Towards the end of the year. The zinc weigh 2.5 grams and the copper 3.1. They made 17 billion cents that year (most in Philadelphia), most are copper and most are large dates. In Denver they didn't make any copper small dates. (There is one known.) They switched to zinc. But they made a ton of copper large dates, a ton of zinc large dates and a ton of zinc small dates. So you have a copper 1982-D large date. Philly has 4 varieties 1982 small date copper, 1982 small date zinc, 1982 large date copper, 1982 large date zinc. Denver only made 3 varieties and the 1 known Matrix anomaly coin. If your coin really is a small date, it's probably zinc. If you think you have the 2nd 1982-D small date copper, then good for you.
No you answered my question I have a 1982 small date without a D and two 1982 D large dates that don't weight up but the small date without a D does
Well the 1982 small date Philly is normal. The 2 1982-D large dates are also normal. When you say it doesn't weigh correctly, you need to post the numbers for their weights and photos. This is the most common coin ever made in the US and probably the world.
Can you post pictures of your cent on a scale and also a close-up of the date? This thread is practically useless without pictures.
Weight and mint mark are the first things that each collector should have next to them, They are not only tools to attribute but they are the tools that allow us to make a verification.
I did sorry I accidentally took a picture of the wrong Lincoln cent but did manage to take a picture of the right one its a little early for me
As @Michael K said, the copper 1982 non-D is incredibly common. That's what you've got, with some damage (those dark spots).
Okay. I was confused because you said “1982 D small date” and you implied that it was copper by giving a weight of 3g. I assumed you were talking about the incredibly rare 1982d small date copper cent but the pictures you posted are of a 1982 Philly small date copper cent. Those are common. It’s worth a cent.
I watched a video that Philly was to have destroyed there 82 copper 3.11small date penny only to have been a hand full . how ever I have a 1982 small date in great condition that weighs out at the 3.11.I'm sure its a small date and an 1982 no mint mark and checked the dates 5 times . could someone please help me with this ? Thank you in advance . Joseph you can email me at E-mails not allowed , use "conversations" PM
Not advised to list your e mail here. 1982 small date Philly in copper or zinc does have a premium in mint state grades. But you are looking at 50 cents or so. And without a picture, one persons opinion of how good a grade is may not be mint state. They didn't destroy their copper small dates. 1982 was a transition year and there were problems with the zinc 1982 small date Philly, and so those are more desirable than the copper. 75 cents or so in mint state.
Never watch any video by that person again. They obviously have no idea what they are talking about and are just making things up.
There are 7 coins for 82. Philly made 10,712,525,000 small date bronze/copper. No MM And Denver made 6,012,979,368 Large date bronze/copper These all can be found in circulation. PS welcome to CT.
