I don't see obvious buff marks, but something about it makes me suspicious, It has great luster. what do you think, has it been whizzed? IMG_E3209.JPG IMG_E3210.JPG IMG_E3211.JPG IMG_E3212.JPG IMG_E3213.JPG

I don't think so. It just looks like it's very well struck

I’m not great with copper so I can’t say for sure. But to me it looks good.
The only thing I’d be suspicious of is the color. I have a hard time picking up altered color on UNC coppers.

Any “whizzing” was on the die when they polished it up some. That’s one honest Abe. Who said, BTW, as a young boy to his dad, ”I cannot tell a lie, I cut down that cherry tree.” :)

Really sharp looking coin there. Some type of doubling goin on in the date
if you expand the second obverse photo that doesn't appear in the first
obverse photo. BTW wasn't it G Washington who confessed to chopping
down the cherry tree ? Just asking for a friend.

Great coin for discussion. I think it looks good but it is just so hard to tell from a picture what you really have. Some kind of disturbance around the mint mark. There are still a lot of nice original coins out there in the wild. Wasn't it Martha that chopped down George's tree?

I plead not guilty to that charge and you have no witness.
    ………..do you ?

No signs of a cleaning that I can see. That is one nice looking coin.

No offence to anyone else, but.... I see a multitude of what appears to be brush marks (lines) on both sides of the coin, but especially in front of Abe's face and, to a lesser degree, behind his head. Also, I'm noting the very obvious marks to the South East of the MM.
It looks like a very careful cleaning, and/or buffing to me, but certainly not done by whizzing.

Perhaps what I see is from die polishing.

    Perhaps flow lines?

I'm not sure about the coin. It has a lot of tiny hits. Something just look wrong. The color looks wrong for a coin with this much going on with the surfaces.

Could be. I know I see lines.

I agree wholeheartedly, the coin's been messed with, I'm just not sure how exactly.

It hasn't been whizzed, and it's absolutely been cleaned but perhaps not harshly so. I do however strongly suspect it's been dipped, but it may have been a different cleaning method.

In any event I see it as a problem coin and likely one to be labeled altered surfaces if submitted.

Thanks everyone for your input. Does anyone think a rusty die would leave this type of appearance?
