Has Anyone Received Their Letter, yet?

The front page article on the October 8th edition of Coin World addresses 2012 First Spouse production delays. The article says that the US Mint is sending letters out to everyone that has bought either an Unc or Proof First Spouse coin from the US Mint between the years of 2007-2011. The purpose of the letter is to explain the reasons for the delay and to assure collectors that the 2012 coins will be produced.

It all sounds a bit strange, but I won't mind as long as I get mine.

I'm an avid First Spouse collector and collect everything I can find associated with the First Spouse series (bronze medals, news articles, etc). This official letter from the US Mint will be an important artifact to add to the collection...so PLEASE, throw yours away! ;)

I wonder if this means that previous First Spouse customers will be given priority access to these limited edition coins. :hail::hail::hail:

I've had the subscription going since the beginning. I get two of each proof, business strike and the bronze tokens. Although most collectors have abandoned the series, I really like how low the mintage numbers are.

So do I! I even paid $300 for the Adams mule (bronze). It's been tough keeping up as gold prices rise. I began collecting two (2) sets so I could sell off one to complete the other (if needed). So far (knock on wood) I've been able to keep up.

The CW article about the US Mint sending letters out only to previous customers seems interesting. The letter itself could be a collector's item. More importantly, the 2012 coins (by law) have to be struck in 2012. As the year comes to a close, it will be interesting to see how many coins are actually struck...and who can buy them. You and I should be good to go.

$300 for the Adams bronze? I didn't know that the bronze pieces had any real value. Why is that one so high. All of my spouse coins are all still in the mint boxes in my safe, one day I plan to put them in an album along with the PR/MS pres dollars.

I may have overpaid...but I wanted one for my collection. Here's an old CT thread about it...and a PCGS article.

Apparently, in 2007 they had already made the 2008 dies. They were making Abrigail Adams medals and someone told the "new guy", "Hey...New Guy, go get me an Adams reverse die!" The new guy came back with the Louisa Adams reverse die...and the rest is history. :D

Well $300 for a 68 RD now seems like a bargain. Is it still the only one?

I just checked the PCGS Pop Report and PCGS has only graded ten (10) 2007 Adams mules...MS64(2), MS65(1), MS66(2), MS67(4), MS68(1)...all red.

    NGC has graded twenty-one (21)...MS63(1), MS64(3), MS65(5), MS66(5), MS67(6), MS68(1)...all red.

I read somewhere that the "estimated" population may be around 700...but no one knows for sure. The numbers above could include some crossovers and be high...who knows?

You've got a 68 Mule? I thought I had the only NGC 68. Is yours PCGS or not a 68?

Yes, I got the letter. It looks so official, I thought they were suing me for selling Arthur's Liberty in "Mint-Like" packaging!

After seeing the Alice Paul sales page, I have a new theory about the delay. Could it have been a holdup with the new packaging? Easier to believe than the "problems making coins" excuse...

The only spouse coin I ordered was 'Jeffersons Liberty'. Wonder if I'll get that letter. Probably not.......

The last letter I got from the feds began with "Greetings...".

Really? Mine started off with some nonsense about me grabbing my own ankles. I was confused, so I threw it away.

That letter must have come from a lonely prisoner.
