<p>[QUOTE="-monolith-, post: 24801112, member: 150064"]Most of us use biddr and numisbid to purchase coins from auctions. I feel comfortable making purchases from most of the dealers listed on those websites. However I came across a new dealer, Rex Numismatics, and have an uncomfortable feeling about them. Here's why:</p><p>1. No website, their website is currently "under construction" <a href="https://rexnumis.com/" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="https://rexnumis.com/" rel="nofollow">https://rexnumis.com/</a></p><p>2. They have quite a few Greek, Provincial, and Roman bronzes that have obviously been painted or artificially patinaed. They do have notes indicating that some of the coins have "artificial patina" or "painted" but I'm skeptical about any of the bronzes listed in their current action as even the one's not noted have an odd sheen to them as though they have been sealed. Why would anyone ruin perfectly good coins by painting them? These are just a few links:</p><p><a href="https://www.biddr.com/auctions/rexnumis/browse?a=4035&l=4770493" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="https://www.biddr.com/auctions/rexnumis/browse?a=4035&l=4770493" rel="nofollow">https://www.biddr.com/auctions/rexnumis/browse?a=4035&l=4770493</a></p><p><a href="https://www.biddr.com/auctions/rexnumis/browse?a=4035&l=4770541" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="https://www.biddr.com/auctions/rexnumis/browse?a=4035&l=4770541" rel="nofollow">https://www.biddr.com/auctions/rexnumis/browse?a=4035&l=4770541</a></p><p><a href="https://www.biddr.com/auctions/rexnumis/browse?a=4035&l=4770609" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="https://www.biddr.com/auctions/rexnumis/browse?a=4035&l=4770609" rel="nofollow">https://www.biddr.com/auctions/rexnumis/browse?a=4035&l=4770609</a></p><p><a href="https://www.biddr.com/auctions/rexnumis/browse?a=4035&l=4770647" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="https://www.biddr.com/auctions/rexnumis/browse?a=4035&l=4770647" rel="nofollow">https://www.biddr.com/auctions/rexnumis/browse?a=4035&l=4770647</a></p><p><a href="https://www.biddr.com/auctions/rexnumis/browse?a=4035&l=4770690" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="https://www.biddr.com/auctions/rexnumis/browse?a=4035&l=4770690" rel="nofollow">https://www.biddr.com/auctions/rexnumis/browse?a=4035&l=4770690</a></p><p><br /></p><p>The silver coins seem fine, but if the bronze coins have been altered this much it makes me feel uncomfortable about any of them.
