In the book, it states that the "S" is faint and would likely be impossible to see in worn coins. My question is: How faint is faint? After years of searching, I finally found one that may be the real thing. The "S" shows from every angle, faintly, at 3X and 5X magnification. But under high magnification, 30X, the only metal that is obviously raised is where the top serif would have been. This is a nice XF, free of chatter and would be called RB. Without the entire "S" being raised metal, I am suspicious of my eyes, and suspect this coin may be like all of my 1916D Mercury dimes that somehow lost their D's. If you have seen one of these in person, could you describe the look so I can spend this coin? Sorry for no photo. If I ever get enough cash again, I will back my car over my Kodak and purchase an actual functional camera. Thanks- Mike[/QUOTE]
