Joining Late... 43 Female here. I wish I had seen this post earlier. I have been collecting coins since I was a little girl. When I would see an "old" coin which to me when I was little were the wheat pennies, I'd put it in my coffee can for safekeeping. I collect coins for several different reasons: 1. I love history and coins are a great way to learn about history 2. I am very analytical and love to research and learn 3. I like the hunt of trying to find a nice coin at a good price or the coin to finish a set That being said, I recently joined a Coin Club because I (being female) do like socializing. I dragged my husband with me (not a collector) and of course everyone at the first meeting thought he dragged me along! ;) My husband is a great sport and explained that he was the tag-along! As to how get more young girls interested in the hobby? My dad would give me coins he found in circulation (wheats, silver) and tell me to keep them as they would some day be valuable -- so guys if you have daughters or grand-daughters (or sons and grand-sons) start taking them to shows and giving them special little treasures, exposure to the hobby is what will get them interested. My step-son has two year twins (boy and girl) and he is buying them proof sets and shows them his coins. Now I am not sure how much they understand but they know the word "coin". So it will be interesting to see if they BOTH join the hobby. Besides coin collecting, many of my other interests (and even my occupation) are mostly male dominated -- could just be the way people who tend to enjoy coins are "wired". Anyway overall I enjoyed this post and got some good laughs from it!
