Blank – A blank of metal intended for coinage but never struck with the dies.

Broadstrike – A coin that was struck outside of the retaining collar.

Brockage – An error that reflects a mirror image of the design impressed on the opposite side of the same coin.

Clipped Planchet – An incomplete coin that is missing 10-25% of the metal.

Defective Die – A defective die will cause a coin to show raised metal or have a small rim break.

Lamination – A flaw with a fragment of metal peeled off the coin's surface.

Mule – A coin struck with two dies not meant to be used together.

Multiple Strike – A coin that has additional image from being struck again off center.

Off Center – A coin that has been struck out of collar and incorrectly centered with part of the design missing.

Overstrike – A new coin produced with a previously struck coin used as the planchet.

Wrong Planchet – A coin that is struck on a planchet designed for another denomination or metal.

    #3 – Broadstrikes

When coins are struck at the U.S. Mint, they are momentarily placed inside a collar during the striking process to help create a properly formed rim. When the coin is not inserted inside the collar, the coin will tend to spread out a bit upon being struck. The result is a coin with an odd-looking rim (or no rim at all), and the design may be off-center. Broadstrike coins will also often be wider than they’re supposed to be. Depending on the type of coin, relative over-width of the coin, and the centering of the design, coins with broadstrike errors are worth anywhere from $5 to over $200.

i never said that, i have my own opinion, error prices are going through the roof, yet you say i overpay when i get a coin for 50,.00 that others have sold for 200 and up, you cannot find errors in the 5.00 junk bins no more, all errors are going up, that is the market..ok, i said my piece, now everyone says their's, am i supposed to agree with everyone?? no i have my own opinion and i weigh other's sometimes i agree with someone, oft times neigh..it is the way it is, if you do not like the way i post, or what ii write, the block button is available, i value all opinions, but if i disagree, i do..
