Well, things are not looking so good for my idea to get vendors to use halves. I called a major coin mech company about making a few special coin mechs to accept halves, and the guy told me that, for 2-3 machines, he did not think it would be feasable, and I asked him if it could still be custom done, but if it would cost tens of thousands of dollars, and he told me, probably, unless I could get at least a thousand or so vending machines upgraded. Then I asked him if it would be easier if the halves were redesigned to be smaller and fit the current coin mechs, so as not to need to replace the current mechs, and he told me that that idea would make it a lot easier. Then I told him about how self checkout machines comfortably fit halves in their coin slots, but the machine just rejects them, so I asked him if he thought that those machines could accept halves, and he told me, probably, but the software might need upgrading. So I asked him, stating how all vending machines made after 1979 were made to accept small dollars, could he possibly suggest that the vendors redesign all future mechs, after 2012 to take halves, and he told me he could, and I told him that I would hold nothing against him if he did not want to ask this, but he said he would and that it was interesting, because no one has ever brought up the idea of half dollar usage in vending machines to him before, and I explained to him, that, with prices on the rise, and the dollar coin failing, you would think that they would try to get another large denomination coin out there, and he told me it all makes sense and he does not know why the idea was not addressed. So anyway, thats my story for today. But, if I can start my business and get halves circulating in large numbers, and partner with other businesses to get both $2 bills and halves into circulation on a large scale, I might just have a chance.
