I'm wondering what caused the crazy look to the rims of this token.

Looks like an awkward strike. Maybe double struck?

Since it's not a U.S. Mint product, the token-maker may have had only third-rate equipment. Any possibility it was struck over a normal half-cent?

The token is Low #49, quoted at $50 in the undated (1960s) Hewitt Catalog, Rarity 2.

The publisher, Hewitt, states that "...number 49 is so frequently included in half cent collections that popularity indicates a much higher price than other Rarity 2 tokens..."

Other Rarity 2 tokens run from $7 to $12, approximately.

Is the eagle wearing a beret? Nice wreath on other side. That rim is wild!

A beautiful early token and with a minting defect on the rim. Very nice toning.

Looks like PSD squeezed between two other blanks. Possible two other coins, but I don't see any image transfer from other coins. Where the arcs pass over the rims on the obv it s clear that the token was struck before the arcs occurred.
