Hairpin wire money, India

    Saw this as part of a collection of mostly ancients at my local shop last week.
    I'm not too familiar with the type. The flip said:
    Larin Hairpin Money, Bijapur India, 1068-1083 AH = 1657-1672 AD Larin Hairpin Money Bijapur India 1068-1083 AH 1657-1672 AD.jpg
    I guess they measure a length of silver wire and then fold it in half and stamp it?
    Reminds me a bit of Russian wire money.
    Anyone familiar with this type or have a suggested reference? Thanks.
