Many fascinating reverses on these small denominations. Here's a stag I recently found. Does anyone else have obols of Alexandria? Let's see them!
oh neat, i've never seen a deer on an alexandrian coin. don't have any alexandrian obols. edit: ooopps, looks live i have seen...but didn't remember.
I have two of these Hadrian/stags. Forgot I had the first one when I bought a second . I'm keeping better records now. Unsurprisingly, @Okidoki has a nice one

Attractive coins. Are they usually about 20 mm? The lettering on the obverse is almost unreadable, what you'd expect from barbaric imitations. But these are official coins, I think. By the way, I would expect obols to be made of silver.
Awesome OP-coin, JA ... and great add-ons, by the good ol' coin-posse!! Ummm, I'm pretty sure that I only have two measly Alexandrian Obol examples (man, I need more coins!!) Hadrian AE Alexandria Obol Antoninus Pius AE Alexandria Obol
The Roman Egyptian obols are bronze. The debased silver alloy called "billion" was used for their tetradrachms, although I'm not certain when the silver content became so low as to warrant the use of term "potin" rather than "billion" tetradrachm. Under Claudius II? Surely I have that information bookmarked somewhere but I can't find it.
Steve stepped away from his desk, so I'll act as his secretary . Yes, that first coin's reverse has the date "L IΔ". Full attribution: EGYPT, Alexandria.
