I got blanked at ROMA, but won a nice Medieval one from Monaco Auction. Photos are from Heritage auction, where it was prev. sold. 220px-Louis_XI_(1423-1483).jpg lf - 2020-10-29T200927.274.jpg lf - 2020-10-29T200942.531.jpg

AV Ecu d'or a la couronne ND Angers Mint MS-64 (highest graded)
    Struck 31st. Dec. 1461
Louis XI "The Spider King" 1461-83

Louis was living in exile at Burgundian Court/ under protection of Duke Philip Le Bon. In 1461, his Dad (Charles VII) died, thus allowing Louis to sit on the French Throne. Trouble arose when Charles the Bold succeeded his Father to the Burgundian throne. Charles allied himself with Edward IV of England to renew hostilities in the Hundred Years War. However, Louis was able to sign the "Treaty of Picquigny" in 1475 to formally end the War that started in 1437. Even better news for Louis, Charles ended up getting clobbered at Nancy by the Swiss. Charles ended up sliced and diced, thus ending the Burgundian rule of the Low Countries. Louis died in 1483, Charles VIII the new Valois King.
Note: Louis looks a lot like Mr. Bean

Nice score John :D! Did you get it for less than the Heritage price o_O? The obverse appears to be in much higher relief than usual for that coin type. I managed to win 1 lot out of 7 from Roma XX, but won't post it until it's in hand. I paid 3 X estimate for it :shame:, but the estimate was low.

    Thank you Q!

I also like French coinage esp. the Feudal States. Seems they had a neat way to code their mints during that time in history. I think that I also won that Agnel d'or/ Charles V/ Angers Mint in Roma event today.

    Thanks Al!
    Congrats on your win:)
I managed to get on MDC/ Monaco site around the time that coin came up. I got it for 3200 euros. Seems there were others that wanted it as bad as me. Then I went to work to wage war on all the leaves;)

PS: I had 5 bids/ got one/ missed that beautifull Flanders/ Louis II de Male AV Mouton d'or:( Someone bid that upto 4400 UK Pounds. A tidy sum when you have crappy Canadian Dollars...
