Hacksawed an Intercept box today

    I agree that the reactants inside the box diffuse throughout its space, and that they'll react with whatever metal is available. However, the surface area of the Intercept Shield material is presumably much greater than that of either the coins you're protecting or the coins you're sacrificing. So the IS box should grab up the reactants more quickly than your coins will, offering better protection.

    How much of a difference is there, really? I have no idea, but I'm certainly curious...

    Yes, I am sure the original active surface area is greater than the coins or anode-coins. However as they react, their active surface area decreases accordingly. I have no doubt they are initially superior to a group of anode coins, but unless the box is going to remain closed and seldom opened, contaminants will come in each time it is opened and the owner will not know when the effectiveness is gone. Anyway, many people believe commercial products are better than homemade, and that is acceptable, but I want a system, I can see is working and I do with this. Both chemically work and if I sold a kit with a few new cents and a piece of sandpaper for $12.00, hmmm :) eBay.
