In some defence of slow payers...please keep in mind some people are in different time zones and when the auction closes at 1 am my time Monday night, I'm not going to stay up to pay immediately or log in first thing in the morning to pay. But much more than that and bad on the winner.
And, let me add, if you are buying more than one item and want to combine shipping, you have to wait until you are invoiced (I think).
Unless they already offer free shipping which most people do now. If they don't a simple email to the seller letting them know you are waiting for an invoice generally avoids all problems with them thinking you aren't paying.
I never have waited more than a day to be invoiced, but I have been charged double for shipping two items that should have been combined.
How long has it been since this individual "won" the last item? It is only reasonable to remember this is a HOBBY for most, so allowing a little (LITTLE) leniency can be good for business as long as a strict "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me" rule is enforced. No one "needs" to buy a coin or coins; it is not food, shelter, clothing, etc, so the target is discretionary income. Since the goal is to remove said money from the buyer's pockets, and it is often easier to "buy" something when one isn't forking over the cash at that very moment (think credit cards and the problems they've caused with many people) it can, at least with the right type of buyer, be good business to allow a few days to pay. With the full understanding that ebay is, or at least can be an entirely different beast from in-person selling, demanding immediate payment in any or all circumstances is often like cutting off your nose to spite your face. I'm not talking weeks here unless arrangements were made ahead of time, but only a few days; in a business where repeat customers are/can be a blessing, the little risk is generally well worth the potential reward, especially in the long run.
That's one of the reasons why I usually try and send an email about it. Some people intentionally hope you just pay both shipping costs, most of the time they probably just didn't check it waiting for the email to show up saying something was paid for.
I, too, pay immediately after winning/BINning. I don't mind the seller taking a week to send out the coins. Like Books4coins said, it's not food or water or another "essential." However, it just makes me worried, as in "Did he forget?" or "Is he trying to rip me off?"
It is not "essential." It's coins. But if a seller wants me to pay promptly, I expect him to mail promptly. It's a two-way street.
A seller in any type of retail setting has the responsibility to conduct himself/herself in a professional manner; allowing a few days for a buyer to pay doesn't mean the seller should be given the same leeway. Unless made clear from the beginning that, perhaps due to other responsibilities, shipping takes place only on X days, 48 business day hours should be more than enough, but anyone demanding immediate payment should certainly be held to the same standard.
If a buyer communicates with the seller that they need a few days that is one thing, but if the buyer can't be bothered to pay for a few days I will not blame any seller that cannot be bothered to ship it for a few days as well
It's called holding one's self to a higher standard instead of stooping to the level of others. "Buyer didn't pay me for four days, so I'm not going to send his purchase for four more"... where does the childishness end?
Only venue I know where you can buy something, not pay for a week then pay late Saturday night and complain you don't have your item on Monday. Really though hasn't their new return policy blown holding sellers to shipping times? If you have to have 30 day returns for the discount anyway and are someone who would never offer that on coins doesn't really matter if your shipping times keep you ineligible for something you won't get anyway
It's been 6 days now. I combined the invoice Sunday night when the auctions ended - $2.95 for 4 items that I was going to ship in a priority mail flat rate envelope. I then messaged the buyer on Wednesday a friendly reminder about payment. Never heard back, so I checked her fb Thursday afternoon and then posted this thread. Since then she's had a couple positives left and several non-payment feedbacks as well. So it appears she bids up everything she is interested in, then when all the items are ended she picks and chooses the ones she wants the most, and then ignores the rest... never responds, never pays, and goes on like this is a legit way to buy on eBay, (which apparently it is, since eBay continues to let her do it). So I'm going to relist them Sunday night and close the unpaid item cases in a couple days. Next time around I'm just going to set them at a buy-it-now price slightly higher than the final auction price, and I'll probably end up making more money the second time around that way. So, no skin off my back. Just inconvenient and time consuming / wasting.
That, my friend, is the definition of a complete jerk. The term jerk is used only to keep from getting in trouble with the mods.
