Guess the Weight

    What's the legality of doing that to US copper coins these days? Wasn't there a five year federal imprisonment and $10 grand fine for exporting or selling pennies for scrap passed a couple years ago? (applied to nickels too I think)

    You are right!

    As far as the labor, it was a labor of love. The 3 days were about 9 hours of pure enjoyment.

    Darn, you had the answer up before I had a chance to post. My calculations came up with 8914.

    I worked on the basis that roughly 80% of the cents in circulation are zinc and 20 are copper. That would mean that 100 cent would weigh 262 gram. The bottle is one of the plastic ones and contributes very little to the weight so I allowed it to be 8 oz. 51.5 lbs at 453.5 grams per pound is 23,355 grams. Divided by 262 give 89.14 groups of 100 cents or 8,914 cents.

    nice find on the 1984! It's a shame about the condition but sure a nice piece to pick out of change.
