I submitted it to ANACS back when they didn't put it in a slab, just sent you a picture of the coin's obverse and reverse with the grade assigned to each separately. I didn't necessarily think the coin was a 66PL, just that it was better than a 63. Years before, I had submitted a large cent to ANACS that I had bought as a 64, raw, of course. Back it came with a grade of AU55. I don't think AU58 had been "invented" yet. Anyway, I sent it back and asked the graders to tell me where the wear was, that I couldn't see any. Back it came from ANACS with the grade of MS60!
The coin was remarkably clean, so if it was unc it had to be higher than 60. More time went by, and I sent it to PCGS. This time the grade was MS64 BN, which was the grade the seller had told me it was. There's more to that story, but I'll quit here. On the 83-CC, a more realistic grade of MS65PL might have gotten it a Green Bean.

You may be right. Remember, I said that CAC didn't think it was anything special. To me, it's just a nice looking 1883-CC that is worth every bit of what I paid for it. It's not the coin in my CC Morgan Registry Set, however. That's a PCGS-graded MS66, no PL.
