I'm at ms66 off instinct alone and no actual basis. I'm trying to guess right off the bat before reading anything anyone has said.
Well this was a tricky one as there were three possible answers! Congrats if you guessed any of the following: MS 65+ , 67+ , or 68 ! https://www.greatcollections.com/Coin/339820/1881-S-Morgan-Silver-Dollar-PCGS-MS-65-CAC-Toned https://coins.ha.com/itm/morgan-dol...6-4968.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 https://www.pcgs.com/cert/35823232
This was an interesting statement since it did grade lower than what most thought on the first attempt. However, it graded higher than all the guesses on it’s most recent attempt.
Seeing as how this date is readily available up to 67 (or higher), I guess market grading demanded a 68?
Maybe. I wonder what the TPGs think the market price is? The spread from a 65+ to a 68 with this color is likely more than $5k!
I find the bean distribution in these cases interesting. I would think it makes getting a gold bean back feel like even more of an accomplishment considering something like this doesn’t get one at 65+ and then jumps to 68. I liked it in the anniversary holder.
I would think it graded far to low on the first shot. The second grading seems closer to reality for me, and the third is too high. I had said 66, originally, and that it was a gorgeous coin. So, the CAC is a given, and if one splits the difference, a grade in the 67 nook of the woods seems sane.
I thought 66. In hand I could see it higher especially with the color. Cac disregards the + designation. And they’re very stingy with gold stickers. They obviously thought it a high end 67. I’d rather have it as a 67+ cac than a maxed out 68 actually. But someone played the crackout game and won
