Never heard the term and no I do not consider it damage. At my local shop I have seen some where the edge lettering does almost cause what looks like a rim bump. As a matter of fact a couple of coins you could tell where the edge letters were because of a small raise piece on the rim. I also have read that double or triple edge lettering brings some kind of a premium - but have never seen a coin priced that way or even advertised that way. So I can not say for sure - personally I would not pay extra for it. I have a couple different edge varieties but never really researched it.
