I believe Mark was just showing why he thought his grade was correct. And it is fine if you disagree, but a discussion and/or illustrations on why you disagree is what I think he was looking for. Usually when an opinion is way off from the consensus(I don't know about others) I would like a reasonable explaination of why - simply because it might point something out that me or others missed.

I think just is confident about his opinion (which IMO is absolutely correct) and he wanted to see why some disagreed with him. If you want to be offended, that's up to you, but I honestly don't think he meant anything bad.

EDIT: Mark h beat me to it :smile

and you are justified to request that. re-reading the replies, I don't see once where mark asked for my observation and assessment to warrant the grade I op'd. It's all in the tone and simply asking, rather than ridicule anyone for just stating an opinion. I suggested the coin grades a high fine, and will concede to perhaps a borderline VF . He opinion-ed the coin was a no question VF or better. I'll still agree to disagree. I would not pay VF money for this coin. It's simply my opinion. Take any "raw" coin you purchased or sometimes even a TPG slabbed coin (sometimes) to a dealer and chances are they will have a differing opinion. Of course that hurts when such situations occur, especially when it's to your disadvantage when you paid say $130.00 and the dealer is only willing to give you a lower grade price.

I was thinking VF/XF when I first saw it. Noticing the luster in the protected areas caused me to lean more towards XF. Very nice coin!

Yeah, there looks to be something going on with the rim at 12oclock obverse. Is that a rim dent, or is that just the photo?

Yes, I agree. Of course one could always make the argument that the TPGs overgrade. This opinion would be tough to back up by examples however, since they are somewhat of a standard.

My first thought before reading the other responses was EF 40ish. The other posts confirmed that, but I don't own any of these so no expertise here. Great coin

The owner/op confirmed it is not rim damage, it was the way the coin was photographed.
