No , it will only lower the grade . On his shoulder those marks look more like planchet flaws which won't lower the grade unless really bad . Read Mikes post 18 a very good explanation . Dick glad to hear the good news , you were both in my thoughts and prayers .
YAY! I'm glad you're back....I've missed these posts.. Glad to hear your wife is doing well. Leadfoot - You're over-thinking. LOL If you look at the shoulder, you can see what I call the "relief factor" for a Lincolnl. The "scratches" indice the high points may not be fully brought-up, so we see more evidence on the cheek and jaw. IMO, this coin is about as good as they get so I'm guessing it's a top pop.
Poll closed....I'm really wondering if I gambled correctly on this one.....look at the herd. LOL  baha and co. > time to make a move
Yes, I will be updating the stats tonight after the polls close. And, no, the last round before my wife's operation was posted.
Here you go. Every grade is taken at least once and this is by far the most newbies I have ever seen on a GTG. First off, the scratches do not show up in hand unless you have a loupe and lighting at the correct angle. Aside from that, there are minimal nicks, nice strike and good luster. Actually, it is a pretty descent 66 in my opinion and PCGS agreed at least with the 66. BTW Leadfoot, actually I normally use 3 lights although occasionally 2 or 1 work better particularly with toners. But you are correct - my lighting definitely accentuates most scratches/dings.
Remember that rlms lighting makes the tics look worse than in hand . Also the tpgs count luster quite heavily .
I still think the biggest mistake people make is trying to remember that graders grade these by eye - no loupe (or 5X for some particulars). At least on my screen, the original picture is already 4X and expand to 9X. The tiny specs that show up at 9X are not even visible to any grader.
