Plausible deniability? Someone is responsible for policy. You would think a major exposure on the worlds richest shopping strip, 5th Avenue and 57th Street, down the block from "The Economist", "Steinway Piano's", "Bergoff", across from Carnegie Hall et al, would have some kind of oversite??? And lets not level all the blame on him. He isn't the only dealer that would have priced that coin high based on the strike. I'd bet a large number, maybe even a plurality might do the same. Duplicity regarding strike, grades and prices are everywhere...which might be the point. Ruben
I have no doubt that there is someone responsible for retail sales policy in their store. But it's not Bowers. His role is one of researcher and cataloger for the auctions. I doubt he anything at all to do with retail sales. That said, if you take the trouble to contact him and explain any problem you may have with the company, he will get involved and make it right. I know this from personal experience.
Actually, I want to keep that coin because the strike is so rich. The other problems I've had might be more in line, or maybe the coin can be repriced. Either way though, many if not most others would do the same thing and good strikes will almost invariably fetch the highest prices. Ruben
