Unc details cleaned (FH but they don't put FH on detail holders) I fell in love with it in the raw, even though I new it was gonna come back with "cleaned" was a very strong strike on this one.. Now i've got 3 of the 4 standing lib quarters.... just need the 1916 now lol
Ya'll, remember when you dip a coin, you take the high point (original) luster. You are literally stripping the surface. It takes away details that the coin originally had, even if you do it right.
A 62 with a good strike and no hits usually suggests one of two things: 1) luster is somewhat muted (it needs to be stronger to reach the 64 or 65 level) 2) a net grade based on some issue that the graders felt wasn't bad enough to detail the coin but made them lower the grade It looks nice overall but there is something in the photos that made me think light cleaning or minor surface issues (then again, it could just be the photos)
Or an unc details. Definitely dipped. I ththey net graded it a bit down. But as absolutely crushed strike as I've ever seen on one. If it had a skin I liked I'd pay a lot for it
Beautiful standing lady you've got there. The strike is as strong as I could ever hope for. Does anyone think the net MS-62 could be partially due to the early stage toning, possible beginning corrosion at 4 o'clock on the obv? The picture is very good. It allows enlargement to see the start of something bad.
Thank you ALL for these insights! There's a tremendous value in the knowledge base of the CoinTalk community - I think these might help explain the MS 62 which I've been puzzling over. I still may submit it to PCGS at some point to see what they say, but I certainly followed the rule here, in buying the coin, not the slab, and I'm really pleased with adding this one to the collection.
