It should, as long as there isn't an issue that will prevent it from stickering at any grade

That was my thought as well. The ONLY thing that should preclude a gold bean is if John Albanese doesn't think the coin should straight grade at all.

Yes, it looks like a gold bean to me.

Absolutely unbelievable! I've never seen a coin so ridiculously under-graded in my whole life. Gold bean the thing, then put it on display at a coin show as an exhibit of graders having a bad day!

Either Doug worked for NGC in the late 80s or this is a mechanical error. I think it was mixed up with another coin from the same submission.

Is there anyway to prove mechanical error? Would CAC say it is too far off that it must be an error, therefor no sticker? And I would like to hear how Doug would grade it :)

I can't speak for NGC or CAC, but that's exactly what I would expect. Send it to NGC for reconsideration and we'll know.

I don't think that's the best route. NGC may say it's under graded or a mechanical error and put it in a new AU 50, 53, or 55 holder. That would not be as good as a Gold CAC sticker (and much less unique). I think the OP even mentioned that he wouldn't even want an MS 62 label.

I'd say send it to CAC first and see what happens.

I doubt they would care if that was the case anyway. Unless it get's regraded it's in the market at it's current grade which is what their concern would be.

I do think that's the best route. @jwitten Do you collect coins or fancy holders with gold CAC stickers? If you're into holders and shiny stickers then I'll shut up now.

I would vote for the old holder with a gold CAC bean. You will only ever have that opportunity one time. Once it's in the new holder, it's just another graded gold Indian.

If the idea is to collect the coin, then nothing should be done at all. What's the point of the sticker or the new holder? In fact, if it is all about the coin, he should just crack it and leave it raw.

In my opinion, @jwitten collects both the coin and the holder. He liked the coin, but the fact that the holder was so undergraded pushed it to a must have combination.

As collectors, we still usually care what the item is worth (it is hard to avoid prices in this hobby). If there is something one could do that would increase the value of a coin, most collectors would do it. In this case, the gold CAC would increase the value while a regrade to anything below an MS 63 would be a way to lose money (based on the price that the VF 30 ended on ebay compared to sales of MS 62 and lower grades).

Wait, this gold $2.5 Indian coin graded as a VF-30??

Wow, gold coins must be a different beast, or something's not right...

    Yeah, there's no way it's a VF-30 if that's the Photograde VF-30.

    It's definitely under-graded.

Unless there is some big net grading happening with that one NGC just straight up gooned that grade

It would be a waste of money to change the holder. It's cool the way it is. I would go for the bean if I had plans to sell it.

I paid over $300 for it, and there's no way I would pay that for a normal VF30 coin. I mainly bought it because of the old holder (yes, I like old and odd holders!). The coin looking gorgeous and under graded was a pleasant surprise. I've never given much thought to CAC, but I would like to have a gold sticker, just to say I have one. Seems like this might be my chance.

I'm a big fan of nice looking coins in older holders. You know the coin is stable. I love coins like this in my collection.

Yup, CDN bid is only $45 difference b/t VF and 62.
