I guess I can stop lurking long enough to say that I think the coin will come back a 65. Although I wonder if NGC will be nicer to it after it goes through NCS.
Thanks for the welcome! I've been working with Jason for a little over a year now. I'm chiefly responsible for seeding wheat penny bags with ridiculously expensive coins.
Color looks "off" but that could be the photos. I'd guess PF 65 -- if it slabs and doesn't come back with the dreaded altered surfaces or questionable color moniker....Mike p.s. cool pattern!
OK - the following pics show what I think are a couple of differences. I agree that NP was right about the rotation, once I straightened the pics out they do appear the same. But look at the leaf with arrow on Jason's coin and the other one, there are differences at the bottom of that leaf. And at the base of the U on Jason's coin there appears to be a small raised dot that is not on the other coin. Minor differences yes, but if the coins were struck with the same relatively unused dies they should not be there.
There were at least two die sets used to make these patterns. I'm not an expert by any means and don't know all the differences but I'm sure someone here can explain.
Well , unfortunately the coins color held it back from being certified by NGC - here she is in the NCS slab . Authentic as the rare pattern that it is but no true grade. Another on the drool list for me-
I am assuming that with the relative scarcity of this coin, a grade would not matter that much anyway. With no real wear and only a few in existance each new sale would bring a new price. Very nice piece.
