On #2 Obverse was not sure what the technical term is that appears next to ear and over the earlobe. But think that would present some problems to allow getting a MS65.
Man, I voted #1. I didn't care for the spot on her nose, but technically, I thought it was the cleanest. I'm surprised #3 got the highest grade. IMO, it had the least eye appeal, although I think it had the most luster.
I actually think it's a hook mark?(don't know the technical term) Edit:That sounded dumb and I was wrong.
Got me there What is a "Hook Mark?" Can anyone explain/ever hear of one of these things? The mark on ... IMHO the mark across the ear is technically called a "reed mark." This characteristic is caused when a bit of the REEDED EDGE from another coin comes into contact with another coin's surface. Anyway, please somebody help me here! What's a "hook mark" and how are they caused?
NEVER APOLIGIZE for adding useful info. I tend to get very sarcastic/abrasive with funny faces in some of my posts. I am also HUMBLED when my grading opinions MISS THE MARK by a long shot In spite of the sarcasm, I really was curious to know what a "hook mark" was because in multi-decades of numismatic study, all the books and publications I currently read - I had never heard the term used. That's why I wanted you to explain the term SO I WOULD KNOW MORE. Anyway, I'll bet someone on CT will have an answer for both of us - for info!
OK...Sean. Now, will you please teach me how to EDIT a post while we wait for an answer as I'm ignorant about these things.
If you look at the bottom (leftish) of this post, there is a "edit" button. If the button is not on the earlier post, it is too late to edit it. Only a moderator can alter it.
It is only there for about an hour. After that, you are SOL. If you catch the post above soon, you should see it there.
Actually, all three graded pretty close to one another. I didn't put up a guess, because, honestly, they all looked about the same---a high in grade 64 to a low in grade 65. That is basically how they graded, so I don't think you have a lot to learn. They were very close in grade, and all basically have that high 64-low 65 look. One grade is often very close on CC dollars--it can get fairly subjective at that point.
Was number 3. Chin mark on 2 kept it a 64 1 a bit baggy and the stain. 3 had the luster to bump it over none super hi grade 65. I'd have called the first 2 64 and 3 64+
