No, that was a gift from one of my students who visited Guatemala many years ago.

@Onofrio Bacigalupo : I like the cadence of your name. I find myself silently repeating it inside my head. It just sounds cool, that's all.

(Don't worry. I might sound like - or even be - a lunatic, but I assure you I'm one of the harmless, friendly kind rather than the creepy, stalking kind.) ;)

Y'all may now resume the discussion, to which I sadly have nothing topical to add, not having done much with paper currency (attractive though it is). Maybe one day; who knows.

Bacigalupo -- "kiss of the wolf" isn't it? I only know this from John Irving's novel "Last Night in Twisted River."

My Guatemala banknote that I have had since I was a tween. It has seen a lot of circulation but is still presentable if a little limp. Has a date of 1900. "Banco De Occidente Quezaltenango".

Had to find in the Krause volume for "specialized issues", not general issues for some reason.

Because it is a private bank issue not a government one.
