Guatemala 5 CENTAVOS - Airport find

Hello everyone,
My wife and I are at John F. Kennedy airport in NYC waiting for our flight to Puerto Rico

The scheduled flight before us at our gate was to Guatemala City, Guatemala. I found two 5 CENTAVOS coins that were left by the previous passengers.

They are smaller and thinner than a US Dime

KM #276.6. Made first in 1997, listings stop at 2010 but the whole range is 30 cents for AU50. Yours are probably AU58/+ and it may take awhile before they update the listing to include either 2015 or 2021. If I had to guess, they are worth around 50 to 60 cents right now. At first I thought they looked like aluminum but they are CuNi.

They say that there is around I think 5 mil in change alone, left at airports every year. Good to see that we have folks that are willing to pick up free money.

 

The TSA makes quite a haul every year from coins left behind.

 

These coins are stainless steel, 2008 was probably the last date of cu-ni.
