This one's a real peach, hard to tell what a beaut she is. You know how some coins you buy and scratch of the list never to see again? This one I have to take out every day to reassure myself she's as sweet as she is I'll leave the VAM out of the poll, but feel free to wager a guess. Seller's pics are quite accurate. Yellow thing on eagle's wing was on the holder. (I forgot 65 and 65 star in the poll!)
I had to research it meself, had no real idea with this year and variety, but I just really liked the coin. Can't say more yet:0)
I think there is too much chatter on her face, so I'm giving it a 63. There are so many VAM's for this date/mm that are unattributable by NGC & PCGS that it might be best for you to use John's (aka messydesk) variety service if you want to have the VAM authenticated. http://varslab.com/ Chris
It came already attributed, so that'll be an easy reveal Thanks for voting, chris. Edit; and, hint, hint, even the title of the thread is technically wrong. At the very least misleading.
In that case, I'm guessing VAM-8 (Top 100) but your photos of the date aren't good enough for me to be sure. Chris
Wow, you really are tough on coins! I think its a solid 64. Clean fields means it's better than a 63, too much face chatter for a 65.
I just noticed that I'm wrong because MS62 is not one of my choices. So much for trying not to be guided by clues.
63 (I'd actually go 63+ but that is not an option) ....there is definitely too much chatter in my opinion for a 65, but I would not be surprised to see it in a 64 holder (the line between 63 and 64 can be a bit blurred) The most important thing is that you like it and that it's one you're constantly taking out to admire!
I gave it the benny of the doubt and went MS64. I'll venture a guess of VAM-8. That's some wicked pull away toning btw...
Now that others have mentioned it... I'm considering VAM-8 as well, the 79/80 Ear, Doubled 18-0. I don't think VAM-9 because it looks to have a medium S... although IM not that great with MM sizes lol.
VAM 8, MS64. Fairly clean fields, good luster (as should be the case for 80-S), marks on the prime focal areas are light, but too numerous for MS65. Reverse is very clean except for the "teeth marks" in the right field. If you bought this in a 63 holder, then well done!
Bravo! This is about as accurate as you can get. I bought it as a straight 64 with really beautiful toning and the VAM 8, medium S, 80 over 79' date. You guys are good The only distracting mark on the obverse is the one from cheek to nose, and reverse has teethmarks as noted but really is clean on the fields and the overall eye appeal is 9/10 in hand. Really a beaut, and I paid a decent penny for it, though in my eyes worth it. And I think just a tad undergraded, as man, have I seen some ugly 64s. Thanks for playing everyone!
