after a 2nd look, I'm changing my guess to a 67, but that's giving it an extra point for the toning. It's weakly struck, but looks blemish-free.

This one is a bit puzzling. Its got nice toning but PCGS gave it a 67+. I dont see it...
The dealer was asking $750 so i wasnt able to acquire this one.

Market grading at its finest i suppose 20180630_110221.jpg

I was temped to say 66 but that obverse strike limit really scared me back to 65...

I wanted to buy this coin pretty bad. It has a pop of 18 at PCGS. There's a pretty big discrepancy in the price guides >>>
Numismedia lists it at $350 in 67+
PCGS has it listed at $1,250 in 67+
NGC has it listed at $2500 in 67+
    That is one helluva spread

Where the heck is @Lehigh96 ???

I been waiting for him to chime in and tell us how ridiculous the eye appeal is.
Explain how all those pre-strike planchet marks dont effect the grade etc etc

I 100% won this because until heavycam gave a hint that I was close, I had had the highest grade. I have been grading since I was 6 and i have been doing this a long time

Ahhahahaha! All hail the mighty ed wood and his guess which was 2.5 grades lower than actual grade!

Now that i think about it......
He is right !!! ED had the closest guess, and then when i gave the hint- everybody raised their grades (well 2 did anyway)
I am afraid i gotta announce a new winner-
ED Wood 654 is the grand champion, grand wizard of the whole thread. He wins the whole enchilada !! ED is the winner of the internet today !!!!! All Hail ED ! All Hail ED !

I had no internet all weekend in Atlantic City. I have no problem with this coin grading MS67, but the eye appeal is not stupendous by war nickel standards and based on the photos, there is no step detail at all. No way this should be MS67+.

Thanks for chiming in Lehigh !! I am glad this guy wasnt charging $3-$400 for this coin !!
My dumb ass probably wouldve ran to the ATM knowing it was overgraded even.

Don't get me wrong, this coin is every bit an MS67, I just don't agree with the + grade. Certain war nickels display a very unique iridescent luster that is often accompanied by milky patina at the peripheries, just like this coin. PCGS covets this look and rewards it accordingly. And while I have war nickels like this in my collection, I don't think their eye appeal should overrule strike weakness in the grading process.

That said, your typical 1945-P Jefferson Nickel in MS67 is still going to run you $300-$400. I paid $437 for mine back in 2008.

I would gladly pay $400 for the coin in this thread.
