I went with MS-62. If the coin was AU, I'd expect to see the luster disturbed in the fields. I see full luster in the fields, especially on the reverse, so I went with an UNC grade. Lot's of marks so its not a high grade, but I don't see anything I'd definitively call wear.
The pictures make it difficult to determine how much luster is there. If it is all there and the coin is just weakly-struck, MS-62. Otherwise, AU-55/58.
So guys, thanks for your guesses. Most of you voted MS61/MS62, so I do. Actually the coin resides in an OGH..... ..and I ask myself: Should I send the coin to PCGS for a regrade or leave the coin in the old holder? Maybe would CAC be an option? What do you think? Thanks.
If it were mine, I'd try for a CAC gold sticker first, to preserve the old holder. Even if it jumped to AU58 when regraded, it's not worth much more, if any. But in MS, there's a significant jump in value. Honestly though, if you crack it and don't get an UNC, you wasted your time and money, IMO.
I wouldn't dream of making any recommendations without seeing the coin in-hand. Actually, I wouldn't dream of it even after seeing the coin in-hand, because I'm still near the beginning of the learning curve on these. But it's definitely silly to make an AU/MS call without closely inspecting the luster flow over the high points, and that requires moving light.
Let us know what you do, Rheingold..... BTW, did you like the beer ? I remember when they dominated the NYC beer market. Miss Rheingold.....etc.
keep it in the OGH, trying for a bean seems reasonable, given the low up front cost. I guessed low AU, it's always tough to guess field luster from static photos. But I felt it definitely AU for what was (to me) obvious rub on the high points.
