Very true, and we are in complete agreement that *wear* is the only thing that will affect an AU/MS determination. However, both NGC and PCGS are well known for silently net grading coins down which have problems. So, a coin that would otherwise be AU-58 could get dinged to 53 or 55 for a scratch that isn't severe enough to bodybag it. In this case, apparently, the scratch was deemed minor enough to retain its 58 grade. To the OP - minus the scratch, that appears to be a very attractive coin. Congrats.
