Please guess the grade of the 1982-D Jefferson Nickel shown below. I have attached a poll for you to cast your vote and you may select up to 4 different things: the numerical grade, Full Steps, + grade, and * designation. As always, comments welcome!
I went for 65, full step. Looks close. What's interesting about the '82, and '83. mint sets were available only at the Mint through the gift shop. Making these a semi-key date. Nice piece!
I voted 65, not full steps. Although, based on your recent series of grading posts..... I could see this anywhere from 62 to 69 * FS. I literally have no idea on these anymore.
I probably am way off base, but I chose 64, not full steps, but + designation. For the grade, not a fan of the big hit on cheeks and in front of face. Reverse better. Overall pretty luster and nice reverse, (hence +), but ding on steps and obverse marks led to grade. For some reason these are about the worst for me to grade, so would like to see where I am wrong.
I went 65 FS just because the last one looked not quite there but was. I do have to agree with physics post above however.
MS63 - the mark posterior to the lips and the gash at the jaw line are really holding the coin back No FS - in between C and E is what I think ruins it + - screw it, why not? I'm imagining this coin has some nice luster in hand and stands out in a crowd
More modern dreck from NGC. I have this coin at MS64, no full steps, the list for appearance review is growing.
Yikes. I vaguely remember your posts in the past over the differences in obtaining the FS designation from TPGs, but don’t recall anything about grading the series as a whole. Is over grading a problem with NGC in re Jefferson’s?
In my experience, No, but all these overgraded coins are coming from the modern tier, so I’m wondering if they are being graded by less senior graders.
