ahaha ... US coins dudes are so lame, eh? baby bird => you should start learning about coins!! (they're awesome!) => get on-board!! We fricken rock!!
Why do you feel the need to keep insulting me and my country? You do realize this is a (US) coin forum right??
@ValiantKnight I DID stumble acrossed that website in my research, and my problem is the spacing between the obverse letters @12 oclock. Is that not a big deal?? If not then its a match, if it does make a difference, now all the sudden is this a discovery coin?
@heavycam.monstervam of course a slabbed ancient will cost more money. If I am selling you a $50 Ancient, but I have to pay $10 in postage and $25 to slab the coin at NGC, I'm going to them sell you that $50 coin for around $100. And what good did your slab do you? You had to come beg us for the proper atribution. Your slab didn't give you that, did it? And your slab didn't teach you how to search a catalog to look that up either. And as for price, that's subjective. What you paid for it may not be what I'm willing to pay for it.
It's friendly banter mixed with sarcasm. We are a salty lot here, and a thick skin is needed, but we are a tightly bonded band of brothers and sisters. Although we play hard, and joke hard, it's all in good fun. No one is insulting you.
That must be the difference between a ancient and modern coin then. We dont tack on extra $ for postal service and slabbing fees. If a coin books 4 $100 ,by god im paying $100 UNLESS there is something special about the coin.
I don't think the spacing on your coin makes much of a difference, but I don't really collect the coins of this specific emperor or era so I am not completely sure.
Do ANY of these coins match up w the OP coin? Specifically, the letters S and A at 12oclock dont seem to be spaced properly. Is this a one of a kind ? Or am i just a noob?
Given that the dies were hand-engraved and that some issues required scads of different dies, little things like letter spacing are expected and generally inconsequential in terms of value. Other things like style, centering, flan quality, etc are more relevant. I "discovered" a handful of them on ACsearch . None of them suffered from plastic poisoning. Some of them were in group lots. Here are the two most recent individual sales: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=2305521 2015; hammer 75 EUR https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1860393 2014; hammer 24 GBP There are more of them in CNG's archives.
Probably just a noob. Variety isto be expected in coins whose dies were handmade by dozens of celators in a mint workshop. Even a second pair of dies made by the same hands will not be identical to the one prior.
I know, Fletcher says it to the Senator on Josey wales. I got deleted last time i said piss, maybe the Mods dont dare come here?
Since the dies were made by hand, there's always going to be some variation with ancients of the same type. Many, like word spacing, usually don't really affect the price.
It is struck with different dies than the others you listed.. maybe there are more, or maybe it is the only one known with those dies, but it wouldn't really affect the value either way.
