What Saturday did you have in mind to divulge the grade given the coin? I don't normally care, but this is an exception!
Mint luster is very important when one is grading these coins. The IP photo shows very little of it. I see frost in protected areas, but not much elsewhere. It's really not possible to grade this from the IP photos, especially when a few grading points mean thousands of dollars.
What do you think about the perceived gross Rub, Wear, Bag-Marks on this offering?: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1853968277...2PKNvo2W/GEUe6tvLRMiptV31I|tkp:Bk9SR97K55PYYA JMHO
Over graded in my opinion. The big mark on Ms. Liberty's right breast is enough to take it out of the MS-66 class. When you blow up the photo, you will see many other marks. Compare it with this one, which is an MS-65, CAC.
As an avid CAC Gold collector, generally specializing in plus graded coins, I'm in full agreement with you. I have many MS63+ and MS64+ CACed coins that have flawless fields/devices with uniform "cartwheel" luster. Generally more "Bang for the Buck". I generally will not buy unsight-seen coins on the internet because of coins being graded, as in my example. I generally purchase from eBay sellers also having an off-line business, in addition to on-line, who I can trust from watching their sales. For an experienced volume collector, generally it only takes less than a minute to establish a purchase candidate. I try to examine every pre-1933 Quarter Eagle and larger Gold coin posted on the internet, and purchase 1-2 coins weekly. I've enjoyed your posted selections, believed having proper+ grading. JMHO
Actually, the luster is basically flat like the photos. So I think the photos give you everything you need to grade it, but don’t take my word for it, look at all of the correct answers.
Seems like a fair grade, although that scratch across the field and face... it barely shows up in the hair in your first photo, but quite obvious in the slab image. I wonder if there will be a TrueView (not yet).
LOL, Dealer C.D.N. value quoted for that coin is still ~TEN times your offer. I'd still offer my previous bid, only 200X face! LOL JMHO
I guessed 53 but that's a win for photo-grading a gold coin. At least I'll pat myself on the back and come up with any rationale to justify it. I've been re-reading Mark Twain's The Innocents Abroad and there was never a more cynical but amusing take on the human ability to fool ourselves.
