I was just curious cause it seems like the reverse toning dulls the contrast on the devices from looking really frosty compared to the fields (at least in the second set of pictures) but if that toning wasn't there it would appear PL on both sides. Curious to see the reveal.
@Lunchbox John I actually bought this one as a crack out, this is by far not a top 3, 3rd party holder. I also didn't pay the grade on the slab. It will be interesting to see what it looks like out of the slab, and in my Dansco.
ANGS infuriates me... so many coins destroyed and used to rip off others. I'm guessing that some of the marks on obverse are just chatter which wouldn't effect the grade as much as contact marks.
Thanks for all your guess's, there still isn't a definitive way to tell the grade unless I crack this one and send it into either pcgs, or ngc. It is at least a crack out, as stated above I feel that this is atleast a 62 PL, and I have seen much more chatter and deeper gouges on 63's. Is this a candidate for a dulled down dip or would you leave it as is?
I would leave it as is...I like how the toning looks on this coin. As for the grade...I don't think the "definitive way" to tell is to send it in. I think this one is pretty easy. I'd put it at a 61 based on the photos but if it looks a little better in hand a 62. I don't trust photos when it comes to PL...but it certainly could be (it does look like it has a proof like look to it). I don't see it going any higher than a 62. There is nothing wrong with having it graded if you want it slabbed by PCGS or NGC...but I really wouldn't say that's the "definitive" way to tell the grade.
@CamaroDMD I meant what the top two thoughts on the grade were. And we all know that's what the market is accepts.
I’m no Silver Guy but know enough to know that’s an attractive 62 you got there! If She had just a smige less acne She’d be a 63. Lol. I like Her looks! Reed
Ok bargain basement holder. I am at high end 61 and not fully pl. it could just as easily go 62. I’d say 61+
i Would leave it just as it is. In my opinion, the grade was generous. I would have gone 60-61, due to the more than average contact marks.
I understand what you are saying...but in my opinion this coin is MS-62PL at best. At that grade, there isn't enough value in sending this coin in due to the market acceptable grade. If you are looking to sell it, I would sell it as is. Now, if you prefer the coin in a PCGS or NGC slab for your collection...then by all means do it. But, I don't see any financial advantage in doing so.
