Leigh nailed it on the ANACs yellow slab. I think it’s a 66 on the slab tho. I like it!! These tone up nicely. It has the same colors as my 61.
In my limited experience with ANACS and Franklin proofs, they seem to scrutinize them more than PCGS or NGC. Also, as others mentioned, it’s difficult to judge a coin (especially a slabbed proof) from a few pictures. I’m going with Proof 63 from ANACS.
The images aren't the best relying on a phone cam just does not cut it...my point and shoot nikon as well my scope are out of order at present. However most of you were able to read it quite well. Yes I agree Anacs has either tighten its system on grading or they no not what they do! This is one of the coins I sent in a couple months back. I posted another thread about the lousy service as well that Anacs has just plain lost it! They gave this coin a 64 like the majority of you... in hand easy 65 more so a 66 and 67 not out of the question. This coin is also a variety. Yes it's grade and variety was the main reason it was sent in. 1961 proofs are a dime a dozen so to speak...so the coins surfaces, color , strike , and variety was the main reason they said not the variety [ Franklin lovers sez it is the variety] Anacs also sent back Two 38 D / D buffalo nickels they said" not the variety"! You don't even want to know what they did to the Lincolns... but had a dealer offer me 65 money on a 1916 Lincoln cent, they called a 62, the problem is its not for sale...It's beatiful I don't want to part with it....but the dealer said ...."prime example you buy the coin not the slab!" It is very difficult to grade a proof coin from a photo. This half has a lot goining for it....considering it's what an $18 coin retail? So you may wish to rethink that $7@coin special ya get what you pay for...and paying for the variety attribution is a joke!
I was thinking that was the DDR-001. Probably would grade 66 or 67 at NGC. I sent them a 56 T-1 a couple years ago...it came back a T-2...now that's a tough one to mess up, but I sent it back and they made it right, except it was an easy 67...they gave it a 66. ANACS is like a dart toss these days...I'm thru with them for now.
I'm sort of thru with all of them at present.....I'm sure like most businesses they have turnover....but the mistakes I've seen between the top 3 are just ridiculous, when does a dealer offer 65 money on a 62 or less coin? I'll buy graded slabbed coins...but my days of throwing good money in to grading not happening no mas! I don't need someone else's mistake to become mine.... and my $$$ can be spent other ways.
