Wow. I knew I was taking a shot in the dark with the seater. Got the morgan and peace but the 79s didn't even make pl? Must be the reverse. Still a beauty! Too bad about the ding in the focal field of the 22
He doesn't give those out like candy. I recently sent in a MS63 Morgan that's an easy MS65 and he just green beaned it.
Let's just say I'd borrow money to buy every Peace Dollar you could find which looked like that at MS63.
First of all you did great all the way around. I will stand by my grades I gave all 3 coins. As I believe that their eye appeal as well as strike merit such numbers. As for the double dime to me you hit a home run. It has so much going on and it's not like there are a ton of twenty cent pieces around in this condition . I've been to shows 20-30 dealers not having one in inventory . You do have a good eye for coins, and I wouldn't mind having all 3 myself in my collection . I'm sure you'll have no problems moving these gems.
Honestly I think the Morgan and peace are solid for the grades. Maybe pl/dmpl for the Morgan is missing but that has to be an in hand assessment and their standards for it were more lax in the OGH days. I'm baffled really. The pics must not be telling The full story or it got a curmudgeon grader back in the day. Or The toning had something to do with it... The peace has that gouge in the prime focal field and minor dings elsewhere especially the reverse. I can see it getting a 63+ though. That said I think there is no doubt they both will green bean. The eye appeal is there and they are solid for 63's. I really want to see that 79s in hand though if it comes back soon enough or if you aren't sending it in until after @C-B-D wink wink
It goes to show how lenient they have become on the Peace and Morgan's. I think the Peace would go two higher.
How are you guys seeing the peace higher? It's a great strike with beautiful original skin but that bird has been hit up more than a puppet in a whack-a-mole game. Not to mention around United States and above One. Then the big mark in the obverse fields and minor scuffs on the lower cheek and neck. This is a textbook 63 imo and maybe, in today's standards, 63+ for the nice skin and strike. Maybe @SuperDave can explain it to me because I'm honestly shocked at all this 64/65 for the peace talk
Focal points. First things you glance at when evaluating a coin are all but pristine on this one. Nothing major on the cheek, nothing major in the hair, nothing major on the highest-relief parts of the eagle's wing. Then you look at the periphery. And understand that this coin is not 8" in diameter in-hand like it is on my monitor....you won't even see most of those nicks in-hand without magnification.
I get that but my logic was in going with the tottality of the minor blemishes. Curious how JA will adjudicate it though
