Bonus: What would you all grade this one? It’s raw but electric blue with flashy luster. @RonSanderson @Lehigh96
I’m still learning from @Lehigh96, so let’s see if my suggestion of MS65 holds up. No matter what I say, this coin is a delight. Edit: I missed the first post, which I think is a 66. I’m going to look at the population reports because these really thin out in these grades.
Did you get it to tone by heating on the range? Because in the picture it looks like you had just finished doing it.
I’ll say 66. There is a good amount of roughness at the center of either side. That appears to just be planchette roughness that was not removed due to the strike. The roughness at the bottom of the obverse concerns me a bit though.
MS66 Wish I had a crystal ball to see what conditions caused that toning... It was nice to see that NGC liked it, particularly as they were tough on some other coins in that submission.
I liked this coin more than NGC. I remember when you first showed this coin, I thought it had a decent shot at MS67. Only the new photo of you holding the coin made me drop that down to MS66+. The coin is beautiful, lustrous, and extremely well struck. Three things you don’t see from 1961 Jefferson Nickels.
