I didn't mean to start a conflict here...I simply tried to guess the grade before looking at the listed choices.
It's a proof... I had experts over on CU verify it and the person who gifted it @Penny Luster verified it's a proof
The fact that it has full steps is much more of an indicator that it is a proof than the rims. In addition, there is no planchet roughness on the jaw or cheek.
I think it warrants a MS67FS. I have two uncirculated coins (P and D) -not proofs- from the last year of silver 1964, and both are similarly as well-struck as this coin with full steps and a darkened rainbow toning. My phone cam is not good so these pics don't pay them justice. I can only say that I'm hoping for MS66FS at the least and hopefully MS67FS.
And, like I replied in your earlier post, it's happening now. You are going to get a variety of different opinions based on the quality of the photo. And then, if you are argumentative, or question everyone's opinion, it will only get worse. GTG is just that, someone's guess, not a professional do all, end all grade.
FS is a designation for full steps on Monticello. FS does not apply to proof coins as they should all have full steps.
GTG is more for slabed and certified coins your title should of been like what do you think this 1959 nickel would grade?
How was I questioning anybody's post? I was simply stating a fact... I cannot take better pics and that was the best I can do
Personally, I don't think the problem is with your camera equipment, it is your lighting setup. You need to get more light onto the surface of the coin without creating glare. It is very difficult to do with direct lighting which is why I, and many others, use diffused lighting when imaging proofs. And even then, my photos aren't that good.
With my new camera, it is the quality... here's the best picture I've taken with that new camera... and that's without any shake
Note, that I said "(If) you start questioning". Many will give you a short answer and not elaborate on why they gave you the grade they did. It might then seem to you like an affront as you may have expected something higher. This is why everyone needs to hunker down with a good grading book, study other coins on sales site that have quality pics to offer. GTG needs to be neutral and fun. Or a bit of a lesson for everyone.
