Good write up. Always appreciate your views, opinion, and insight. Super knowledgeable. I like this as a 66+. I hope it would land as a 67 but to me without a doubt a 66 CAC even in PCGS. I think it deserves a plus. Keep us/me updated if it gets the 67 at NGC.

as frustrating as this can be that statement is the truth, I will not send a coin to get graded for a high ms if there is a visible ding anywhere without a loupe unless it’s a variety or some other special grade, like FS

Excellent analysis! What are your thoughts applying this analysis for the 70-79 series of JNs. For example, the strikes observed on many 74s is quite light on the EPU on reverse? The strikes are mushy as well. Have there been any studies on the alloy mix and how the planchet tires out the working die quickly and the coins at the beginning of that dies run and your best bet for a strong strike is on the point in time. I would be curious to know if the number of dies used in the 70s was greater than other decades.

It was a great write-up. I agree with you on the strike and luster issues with the 54s. It is a difficult coin to find that is well-struck, attractive, and lustrous? That is a given. Will it make 67? Hard to say, but I feel it has a good chance. You have a winner there.
