Yeah something about the cheek and jaw chatter in the OP kept me off it.
    It's such a beautiful coin.

I didnt see this one until now. I would have been in the 66+ to 67 range. Not a bad coin.

The 54S is in the top three for worst struck nickels in the series. If this had been a FS it would be a 30 to 40+ thousand dollar coin.

I’ve never seen a full step 54-S, my registry coin has almost 2 steps.

I haven't either in person. Pcgs has graded 10 in 65 one in a 5+ a 66 that sold 5/18 for 30,000. You might take a look. I don't see a FS in the photos but hey someone was willing to pay the price. And one 67FS.

I think it’s silly to pay those ridiculous prices for strike designations. For date/mm where full steps is common, I think the designation becomes mandatory. But for dates that it becomes really rare, those that do show full step detail are often hideous in every other regard. I like collecting coins with eye appeal, strike is my least important element of grading.

    I can agree with this.

I can understand that a weak strike can be looked over when eye appeal is valued more. Most of us would do the same. Yet both of these were struck well enough to be true gems.

As an update, I sold this coin last week for $230 on E-Bay. I purchased this coin raw last year from the annual Allentown/Bethlehem coin show in PA for $2. After grading fees, sellers fees, and S&H, my profit was $181.

My conclusion is that I need to go to more of these shows.
