Im not disputing that, at all. Not sure how in-the-know you guys are when it comes to Benjamins. There has been a ton of grade-flation within this series in the last few years. Crackouts have been getting as much as a 2.5 grade point bump at the gem levels. To me, this coin is a nice 64 borderline 65 that got the old eye appeal bump up to 66.

You would be correct, like i said i rarely even look at this series. I honestly dont even like Franklins. I havent ever seen one with Frosty luster like this, and it goes to show, that grading from a photo is impossible. Unless you are looking at a white, dull, garden variety widget.

Jet, i know ive said this before, but one of these days im gonna have you do some of my coins justice, with your super power photo'ing skills.. I look at the photo of that '85o i bought from you, more than the actual coin itself

It’s not Jet Lee. It’s J T Lee or Justin.

Jet Li is a Japanese Martial Arts movie star.

There are certainly series of coins that are graded differently. The Franklin is one of them. I personally would have graded this a 64 tops, because of the distracting marks on Franklin. But for some reason, the TPG's see those flaws as "As Struck" because they existed on the planchet first. If you look at the Franklin Half over, you'll notice that the bell is fairly large and of decent relief above the surrounding fields. Then you'll notice that Franklin is directly opposite of the bell and the highest points of Franklin lined up with the high points of the Liberty Bell create's a fairly large void for the metal to fill. Add in that the planchets probably were not cared for too well during their production. So it's no coincidence that some of those flaws carry through the striking process.

Are they distracting? Yes, and in my opinion should limit a grade as they are a defect against eye appeal. Another example series is the Ike Dollar. The issue there is the metal was quite a bit tougher to strike than silver. Again, the planchets were not handled with care and they got beat up during the production process. Again, the argument is made that those flaws existed prior to striking and are not counted as post strike flaws, hence don't count against grade. What we collectors can do is just not buy them and wait for a better example come along. However, in some cases an exception can be made with the color adding to the eye appeal. So buy the coin and not the holder. ;)

Last year I sent in a 54 s to Anacs a $12 purchase it was a filler coin to complete the order it came back as a ms 66....and to be honest I didn't see that coming. Again we have a grading system 1 to 70 and how many different protocols by the TPG's?
And I say this not to strike a nerve but everyone here has seen wholesale over and under grading by all...so that said more or less ya lay down your money and just spin the wheel at times.
