I will be submitting this coin to NGC in the near future. Please GTG that NGC will assign of the 1950-D Jefferson Nickel shown below. I have attached a poll for you to cast your vote and you may select up to 3 different things: the numerical grade, 5 Full Steps, & + grade. Remember, please vote in the attached poll and vote for both the numerical grade and the whether you think the steps are full or not. As always, comments welcome!
I went 67 5FS. However I tend to be more generous than the TPGs on Jeffersons, so maybe a 66 at worst I would think?
I want to say 67+ 5FS. That would make it top pop I believe. If it doesn’t have a + I am fine with that but bet it would sticker at 67 meaning it’s on the high end of the grade.
Thank you to everyone who participated in this GTG thread. I have two more 1950-D Jefferson Nickels that I am considering submitting and would like your opinions on their grades as well. The links to the new GTG threads are shown below. GTG 1950-D Jefferson Nickel #2 GTG 1950-D Jefferson Nickel #3 Thank you!
Most people nailed the grade on this coin found by @Springford CC An absolutely exceptional 50-D Jefferson Nickel, the finest I have ever seen, and I have owned multiple MS67 5FS over the years.
Excited to get my first home made home run! Let’s hope the 53D & S sets coming today contain another hidden Gem like this one.
As an update on this coin, I have officially purchased this coin from @Springford CC and sold off my existing registry coin which was an MS67 in an old fatty holder that I sent in for designation review and upgraded from MS67 to MS67 5FS. The old coin had nice, but not spectacular toning, and the steps were rather weak. This coin is the cleanest, most lustrous, well struck, with razor sharp steps 1950-D Jefferson Nickel I have ever seen. It will take something jaw dropping to knock this coin out of the box. Old Registry Coin: New Registry Coin: Toning isn't everything.
That sure is a clean coin. The characteristic look of the older die just makes it look really unique and special. Congratulations on the upgrade! The previous one had nice toning, but the look of the new coin is just spectacular.
