In my experience, NGC upgrades my PCGS Jefferson's. And sometimes adds FS where PCGS didn't!

Terrific luster + minimal marks + splash of color + 5 FS = PCGS MS66 FS.

No way NGC has always been tougher on grading nickels then PCGS ! The op coin yes is a nice specimen that I would consider paying 64 5 FS money. The op specimen is grossly over graded IMHO @ 66 FS. Again buy the coin not the slab. As to your statement as to grading between NGC and PCGS I have sent NGC coins to PCGS and received higher grades 9 times out of 10.
Another reason I question why everyone puts trust in PCGS.......why inflated grading adds to a dealers profits?

I'm just saying that in my experience with Jeff's, I got a few upgrades at NGC. TRUTH!

I went with 66 because of a few things. I figured it had even better luster than what the first images were showing. The slab shot shows that luster to me. The lack of hits and shatter brought me to 66. I don't know much about steps but the week bottom step made me think it would not get FS. I like the coin.

I am amazed, the amount of contact marks in focal areas should keep this one no higher than 65, I don't see what PCGS was thinking.

Well we are experience different results but about 20 years ago I purchased a unc. Roll of 50 D's went through the roll that at best were 63/64 coins.
Picked out the 12 best sent them into NGC. 1 came back FS 64 a couple 64 5 steps.the rest came back as stated 64 /63 coins.
The coins were busted out sent into PCGS one came back a 67 two came back a 66 one was FS 6 came back as 5 FS 65 and the rest 64's.
I kept one 65 FS sold the rest off at market price for what was on the slab. As I knew with out a doubt this roll was nothing more than mid grade coins. I recouped my outlay got a coin for my set that I was happy with and still to this day have a few raw ones left.
Which some have been given to members here as gifts.

For what it's worth, I thought the large mark on the collar and the one above the L on the reverse were distracting enough to warrant a discount and I got the coin for about $30 under the guide price.

How PCGS considers other factors in their grading is a mystery to me, but I think it is especially odd that their policy is to give a "FS" designation to coins that have 5/6 steps. If there are coins out there in the mintage that have 6FS (there are in this one) then it should be 5FS or nothing IMO.

I like the coin so it's all good, whatever the grade.
