Please guess the grade of the 1940-D Jefferson Nickel shown below. I have attached a poll for you to cast your vote and you may select up to 3 different things: the numerical grade, 5FS or 6FS or NOT FS, and + grade. As always, comments welcome, and please remember to vote in the poll.
MS 67 6fs ....steps are all there and the coin looks remarkably mark-free (as well as lustrous)....it could very well sneak into 68 territory, but I didn't go that high as I was being a bit conservative (plus I don't think I've seen a 68 before for non modern dates).
I have submitted hundreds of Jefferson Nickels in my life. This coin is far and away the best nickel I have ever submitted. I was expecting MS67+6FS with a legit shot at MS68 6FS. Whomever graded this coin was high on crack!!! I don't usually get upset when I get a bad grade, but this one pisses me off. I am tempted to send it to PCGS because this is the type of coin that PCGS loves, luster bombs! I am going to be doing a series of GTG threads from my latest NGC submission that came back yesterday. Here is a link to the next thread. GTG 1941-S Jefferson Nickel (NGC)
